Möhnesee and it´s villages

Unique views, impressive chapels, sculptures and plenty of history - all this is offered by the places in Möhnesee. Ideal starting points for hikes or places to stop on a bike tour - there are exciting and beautiful things to discover in the villages around the lake.

From the baker, to the tree nursery and farms with direct sales to regional products as souvenirs, there is everything your heart desires at the Möhnesee. Great projects in individual villages and their small peculiarities reward the visit and awaken the spirit of discovery.
Berlingsen
The special charm of the village of Berlingsen is made up of 16 farmsteads. The oldest half-timbered farm in the village is Barnhausen Farm. The memorial in the center of the village is also worth seeing. The memorial to the fallen of the First World War is a small open cap with an old wayside shrine in honor of St. Pancratius. From time immemorial, the site has been a blessing station during the traditional Pancratius procession. It can be found on a small hill at the entrance to the village. Standing there under mighty lime trees, it invites you to linger.

Various wayside shrines adorn the village and its immediate surroundings.

The Himmeltenberg vantage point offers a uniquely beautiful view. The meadows around Berlingsen are ideal for walks. Walkers, hikers and cyclists are invited to take a break by 5 benches specially created by the village community. On the old Kressweg near Berlingsen, you will also come across Ulrich Möckel's "Kontur" trail marker.
Brüllingsen
Brüllingsen's diverse green structure with green strips, hedges and stands of willow is particularly characteristic of the village. This is one of the reasons why the small village is embedded in the Hellwegbörde bird sanctuary. The stately farmsteads and the striking Heilige Dreikönige parish church create a typical village atmosphere. An idyll with orchards, Weide and a beautiful village pond.

An information board about the local heating network welcomes visitors at the entrance to the village. This local heating network supplies 90% of all households in Brüllingsen from a nearby biogas plant.
Büecke
The village was first mentioned in documents around 1200. In the course of history, the village "Bucholt" (1210) was given various place names that referred to a Buchenwald forest that once covered large parts of the Haarstrang. Farms and barns made of local sandstone still characterize the townscape today.

Next to the Schützenhaus, a small avenue of birch trees points to a former trade route, the "Frankenweg", which led from Soest to Cologne in the Middle Ages. At the Schützenhaus, a footpath and cycle path leads to the adjacent Kleiberg nature reserve, a former military training area where semi-wild horses and cattle graze today.

On the "Wippringsener Weg", under an old lime tree, there is a medieval court site from the time of the Femegerichte around the year 1500 AD. From here, you can enjoy a unique view of the Soest Börde and far beyond.
Delecke
Delecke can already look back on over 800 years of village history.

With direct access to the water and a sunbathing lawn, a diving bay, slipways and access points for surfers, Delecke makes the hearts of water sports enthusiasts beat faster. A campsite on the southern shore of the lake, a hotel and a camper van site, vacation apartments and houses, pubs and restaurants provide a good infrastructure for guests. In the season between April and October, the Möhneseeschifffahrt catamaran docks near the Delecke bridge every hour.

Event highlights are the Drüggelte Art Festival at Whitsun and the Drüggelte concerts in summer.

Also worth seeing are the Bismarckturm and the Drüggelte Chapel, which are regularly open during the high season. The nature promenade along the Heve peninsula is also a great excursion destination for families and nature lovers.
Echtrop
Today, the Pengel-Anton-Route leads along the railroad line of the disused Westphalian state railroad from Soest past Echtrop to Möhnesee and on along the Möhnetalradweg to Brilon.

Sights include the more than 250-year-old shepherd's lime tree and a farm pond. The ice rink is also a popular attraction.

You can find some information about Echtrop on an information board erected at the Schützenplatz.
Ellingsen
The village of 100 inhabitants offers a wonderful panoramic view over the Westfalen Bay. On a clear day, the view extends as far as the Teutoburg Forest.

Ellingsen essentially consists of former farms and associated craft businesses. However, farming has largely become a sideline. A leisure company specializing in outdoor activities offers various activities for groups on site and at the Möhnesee. The time of day is traditionally announced by a village bell.

In addition to the beautiful view, the wayside cross in the center of the village is also worth seeing.
Günne
At the entrance to the village, anniversary plaques tell of the life and living conditions of the people in the Möhnetal.

Günne's sights include the dam wall, the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Anthony the Hermit, the late medieval Chapel of the Resurrection and the memorial to the fallen soldiers of the two world wars and the victims of the Möhne disaster. The wide range of sports, leisure and recreational facilities are used by locals and visitors alike. Vacation apartments and houses as well as a guesthouse offer various accommodation options.

The Günner Heuer (Günne shepherd) in the village is well worth a visit. The church forecourt also invites you to linger with a great view of the dam wall and the "Bank am Westenberg" offers a great view over the beginning Sauerland.
Hewingsen
The small village of Hewingsen with around 220 inhabitants is located at the foothills of the Haarstrang.

The small Marienkapelle, which was built in 1948 and dedicated to the "Immaculate Conception of Mary", is particularly worth seeing. The eight new chapel windows with their artistic stained glass depict the most important stations of the Mother of God.

Popular places for meetings and celebrations are the Schützenhalle of the Schützenbruderschaft St. Hubertus and the village square. These include shooting festivals, Harvest Festival, May Festival, Advent celebrations and many more.
Körbecke
Körbecke, with its population of just under 5,000, is the central town and state-recognized resort of the municipality of Möhnesee with its administrative headquarters, municipal administration, tourist information office, varied range of restaurants and numerous shopping opportunities.

Sights include the Pankratius church, the old half-timbered Stockebrand house and one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Europe. The riverside promenade, bathing and boat moorings, the Möhne shipping company, surfing and sailing schools and a small indoor swimming pool are also among the attractions. Hiking and cycling trails attract visitors from near and far. Restaurants invite you to enjoy and linger. There is always something going on in Körbecke: guests are warmly invited to the farmers' market, antique and flea markets, carnival, shooting festival, Bavarian and bridge festival, triathlon and FeierAbend am See. Hospitable hotel rooms, family-friendly vacation apartments, cozy guesthouses and a campsite offer accommodation of all kinds.

The Seepark, which was created as part of the Regionale 2013, has created a new connection between the center of Körbecke and the Möhnesee. Orange and blue stones have been set into the sidewalk to guide visitors. These show the way from the town center to the water (blue) and from the water back to the town (orange) with different images.

The lake park offers numerous opportunities for activities, including a playground for different age groups, mini and adventure golf, a skate park and various play areas, such as a basketball court. Above the Seepark, there is a hidden object map that lets you discover the entire municipality of Möhnesee.

If you follow the lakeside promenade from the lake park towards the pedestrian bridge, you will quickly find your way to the Möhnesee tower. The 40-metre-high observation tower is located in Körbecke on the southern shore in the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park.
Stockum and Neuhaus
The village of Stockum on the eastern part of Westfalen is located on the sunny northern shore.

The forest colony of Neuhaus, which belongs to Stockum, is around five kilometers away in the middle of the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park. The twin village is home to around 750 inhabitants.

The romantic valley of the Heve and Schmalenau rivers, the thousand-year-old oak trees and beautiful views of the Soest Börde are well worth seeing. The view from Mestefeld to Loers Hof or the Stockum dam is also unique.
Gastronomy rounds off the offer.
Theiningsen
The Haar and Möhne rivers come closer together at no other place than in Theiningsen, which is characterized by agriculture.

The village chapel of St. Agatha is a lovingly maintained gem in Theiningsen. There is also a beautiful wayside shrine under a few large lime trees in the immediate vicinity of the chapel.

Modern art can also be found in the village. The "Millennium Mamma" waymark project by Soest artist Richard Cox stands on the outskirts of the village and is a major attraction for cyclists traveling between the Soest Börde and the Westfalen Sea.
An inn, now run by the 3rd generation, offers home-made sausage with Westfalen ham. It has also adapted to the needs of cycle tourists with overnight accommodation. The farm café also offers a special atmosphere.
Völlinghausen
The village of Völlinghausen extends over a large area from the southern part of the Haarstrang to far into the Arnsberg Forest Nature Park.

With its golf course, wildlife park, Köbbinghof estate, leisure facilities, mini golf course, sports grounds and well-kept restaurants as well as numerous accommodation options, the village is a popular destination for day visitors and holidaymakers.

The Luna Park, recreational forest and bird sanctuary with nature trail bring visitors closer to nature. The magnificent tree-lined avenues are part of the German Avenue Route.
Wamel
The village of Wamel at the mouth of the Möhne has a wide range of tourist attractions.

Berghof, Blumenhof, Wunschhof and Schultenhof are all old farms worth seeing. The historic Kanzelbrücke bridge provides a connection to the southern bank of the Möhne. In summer, the "Uferlos" lido is a meeting place for sun worshippers.

Accommodation and restaurants are available directly on the lake.
If you are traveling from Haarstrang towards Wamel, you will come across the "Fern-Seh-En-De" trail marker by Stephan Lawson. From its vantage point, there is a unique view of the Möhnetal. A bench invites you to linger.
Wippringsen
The townscape is characterized by original farms. The heathland in the northern part of the village is an attraction for day-trippers of all kinds. This is where the old Kressweg (Kräes-Pankratius in dialect) used to run, separating the Duchy of Westfalen and the Soest Börde and connecting the towns of Soest and Arnsberg. A bench with a view of the Soest Börde and the Beckum mountains was erected here on the occasion of a Schnadegang.

The memorial and the bell tower in the village are also worth seeing.
