Möhnesee-Körbecke
Möhnesee-Körbecke
We start in Körbecke. The main town in the municipality of Möhnesee offers free parking as well as various places to stop for refreshments and leisure activities, so we have plenty of good reasons to linger after the tour.
From there, we cycle west to Westrich. The path leads through fields above the Möhnesee and offers a wonderful view of the Westfalen Sea. This is topped off when we turn right in Westrich and cycle up to the Haarstrang mountain range and take a short break at the highest point of the tour to admire the view. Continue to the Thing Hof (please note opening times!) in Theiningsen. The rustic café with its inviting garden does not make the decision to continue easy! We return via the Haar in an easterly direction, turn right onto a country lane, rolling pleasantly downhill towards Haus Delecke, where we continue along the water on the right. A short time later we reach the imposing dam wall. Just walking over the crest (please push your bike) gives you an impression of the dimensions. 40 meters high, 650 meters long and more than 100 years old!
The tour leads straight into the Hevesee and Hevesee nature reserve, home to many water birds and also a migration and wintering area for up to 10,000 birds every year. On the Heve peninsula, three nature balconies offer a view of the landscape and its inhabitants. In addition, the information stations on the Water and Forest Nature Promenade along the 3.6 km long riverside path provide information about the flora, fauna and history of the region.
Continuing along the southern bank, we reach the Stockum dam. After crossing the dam, a short detour along the lakeside road leads us uphill to Löershof, where the Abel tree nursery is located, along with a small store selling regional fruit and vegetables (please note opening times!). You can also buy apple juice made from apples grown on the farm or wine and delicacies. Back along the lake, it's a leisurely walk back towards Körbecke, where the Seepark attracts visitors with its many gastronomic offerings. Now it's not far to the starting point of the tour in Körbecke, at the Haus des Gastes.
A good starting point is the Haus des Gastes in Körbecke. We follow Schützenstraße uphill for a short distance and turn left onto Daiwesweg. This becomes Kirchweg and leads to Westrich. There we keep to the right and cycle up Stemmweg to Zur Haar and on to Thing Hof in Theiningsen. Thingstraße now leads us back, via Sankt-Agatha-Weg, further left onto Haarweg, which we quickly cross (watch out for the main road!). Following the signs, turn right onto a field path down to the shore of the Möhnesee. After about one kilometer, we reach the imposing dam wall. After crossing it, the route follows the banks of the Hevearm nature reserve to the Hevedamm. Once you reach the other side, you can take a detour to the gatehouse. We then cycle around the Heve peninsula to the southern shore of the Möhnesee. We follow the cycle path along the shore to Stockum Damm. Back on the north side, we turn right to Löershof. The path continues uphill to Stockumer Weg and, turning left, we reach Körbecke again a short time later.
