Whether caused by the wind or by human hands, the unique sounds emitted by the detailed instruments make visitors sit up and take notice of their surroundings.
When the wind blows from the west, the wind violin plays its eerie "Kyrill Song", reminiscent of the destructive force of the storm in 2007.
Hardly anyone can resist trying out stringed instruments such as the standing harp or the tree harp. They elicit pleasant sounds even from the least musical of visitors.
The sound forest is the result of an ideas competition organized by the Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection among the North Rhine-Westphalian nature parks in 2007. The Arnsberg Forest Nature Park successfully entered the competition with its entry "Mythos Wald" (Forest Myth) and the "Klangwald" (Sound Forest) project it contained and came first.
